Il Mercato di Via Cola di Rienzo: quale futuro?

Sono anni che passo davanti al mercato di Via Cola di Rienzo e mi domando: perché un edificio come questo, lungo una strada come questa, in un quartiere come questo, con la moltitudine di romani e turisti che vi transitano continuamente non viene riqualificato!?!

Senza volersi andare a cercare esempi all'estero (La Boqueria a Barcellona, il Mercato di Budapest, quello di San Miguel a Madrid...) basti vedere quello che è stato fatto a Firenze con il Mercato Centrale!!!

In un periodo come questo in cui il settore food riscuote un successo senza precedenti, in cui nello stesso quartiere in cui è ubicato questo mercato le nuove aperture enogastronomiche sono quasi all'ordine del giorno, cosa fa il Comune di Roma?? assolutamente niente! L'attività del mercato si trascina da anni in maniera stentata. Nessun progetto alla base dell'allestimento degli spazi, pochi banchi aperti (rispetto alle dimensioni della struttura), nessun punto di ristoro degno di questo nome. Niente rispetto alle enormi potenzialità che un sito del genere potrebbe avere.

Eppure è sotto gli occhi di tutti il successo di Eataly (che a Roma peraltro sta in una zona ben più decentrata) o di Autogril a Milano con il suo Mercato del Duomo.

In attesa che l'idea di investire (come spesso accade in questa città) se la faccia venire qualche azienda straniera o che la struttura chiuda perché surclassata dalla concorrenza, continueremo a sperare che il miracolo accada...
